| Over 700 finely attired spectators, competitors and press gathered in Bedford Square, London to cheer and applaud the lighting of the Olympic Pipe, which officially marked the opening of the 2006 Chap & Hendrick's Olympics. |

| Voted by The Sunday Times as one of the top events of the summer, the event included leaping into a sandpit holding a brimming gin and tonic (with points deducted for spillages), and procuring gentlemanly essentials, such as kippers, from a shopkeeper with little command of English and few manners. |

| Spectators, athletes, physicians and onlookers supported competitors from the shady comfort of one of London’s most beautiful private gardens, whilst sipping Hendrick’s & Tonic from a fully stocked Hendrick’s Gin Bar. |
