John Ross was born in St. Andrews, Fife in 1956.

Although his name is John, his family call him Ian and has done so for some time.

At 22, an age when many young men are carousing at bars, Mr. Ross went a step farther by joining an actual distillery.

He has been at William Grant & Sons Distillers ever since. Although he happily married the lovely Rosemary (whom John/Ian rather straightforwardly calls "Rosemary"), his truest passion is for the distillation, instillation, and infusionary possibilities of gin.

His hobbies include fishing and, not surprisingly, the growing of cucumbers. Mr. Ross' behaviour and appearance are outwardly normal. All his oddness is directed toward Hendrick's.

His cat’s name is Candy and she is as sane as anyone.
